School Fruit & Vegetable Scheme
The School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme is part of the 5 A DAY programme set up to increase fruit and vegetable consumption.
The national campaign aims to improve the diet of children and entitles all four to six year old children in LEA maintained infant, primary and special schools to a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day,
Experts around the world recommend that eating at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day promotes good health and helps prevent cancer and other diseases.
Fruit and Vegetables in the scheme include: apples, pears, bananas, easy-peel citrus, strawberries, carrots and tomatoes.
